FRP pipe and fitings

FRP pipe spool

Introduction:

FRP pipe spools, short for Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Pipe Spools, are an indispensable component of fiberglass piping systems. They are typically used as connectors for flexible or rigid connections between valves, flow meters, pump sets, and main pipelines, or to compensate for length tolerances during pipeline installation.

Our FRP pipe spools are manufactured using high-performance unsaturated polyester resin or vinyl ester resin as the matrix and alkali-free glass fiber as the reinforcing material, through a computer-controlled winding process (fixed-length winding or continuous winding). The product has a scientifically designed structure consisting of an inner lining layer, a structural layer, and an outer protective layer. Different pressure and stiffness ratings can be customized according to customer needs, making them suitable for various complex working conditions.

Features:

  1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance

FRP material itself possesses excellent chemical stability. Our FRP pipe spools can be customized with different resin systems depending on the media characteristics:

  • Phthalate/isophthalic acid unsaturated polyester resin: Suitable for conventional media such as sewage and municipal water supply and drainage.
  • Vinyl ester resin: Resistant to strong acids, strong alkalis, and organic solvents, specifically designed for highly corrosive environments such as chemical and metallurgical industries.
  1. Lightweight and High-Strength, Easy Installation

The specific strength (strength/density) of FRP is higher than that of ordinary steel. For the same specifications, the weight is only 1/4 that of steel pipe fittings. This characteristic significantly reduces transportation costs and on-site hoisting difficulty, making it particularly suitable for high-altitude operations, space-constrained renovation projects, and large-scale projects such as offshore platforms, significantly shortening the construction cycle.

  1. Excellent Fatigue and Aging Resistance

The product adopts an advanced winding process, with the fiber layers distributed in a cross-spiral pattern, giving the pipe fittings excellent axial and circumferential stress characteristics and high fatigue strength. The outer protective layer incorporates UV stabilizers, effectively resisting direct sunlight and weathering, ensuring it remains crack-free and non-brittle for long-term outdoor use.

  1. Smooth Inner Wall, Significant Energy Savings

The product's inner lining is molded using a mirror-finish mold, resulting in extremely low surface roughness. Compared to steel pipes, FRP pipe spools offer superior hydraulic characteristics, with a Manning coefficient (n) of only 0.008-0.009. Under the same pipe diameter and flow rate, pumping energy consumption can be reduced by 15%-20%, resulting in substantial long-term energy savings.

Application:

  1. Petrochemical Industry

In acid and alkali transmission pipelines, brine pipelines, and organic solvent process pipelines in chemical plants, traditional metal pipe fittings suffer from severe corrosion and require frequent replacement. Our FRP pipe spools, with their corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance (some resin systems can withstand temperatures above 100℃), have become the preferred connector for corrosion protection upgrades and new construction projects in chemical enterprises.

  1. Seawater Desalination and Marine Engineering

In the high-salt-spray, high-chloride-ion marine environment, metallic materials are highly susceptible to electrochemical corrosion. FRP pipe spools possess natural resistance to chloride ion corrosion and are widely used in seawater desalination plant intake systems, reverse osmosis (RO) unit connection sections, ship ballast systems, and offshore platform fire-fighting water pipelines.

  1. Municipal Water Supply and Drainage and Wastewater Treatment

In municipal water supply networks, wastewater collection systems, and reclaimed water reuse projects, FRP pipe spools are widely used in pipeline maintenance wells, pump station connections, and valve installation nodes due to their non-toxic, harmless (meeting drinking water hygiene standards), non-scaling, and non-bacterial properties.

  1. Power and Environmental Engineering

In flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems of thermal power plants, circulating water systems of nuclear power plants, and leachate transport systems of waste incineration power plants, FRP pipe spools can withstand the combined corrosion of high temperature, high humidity, and complex chemical compositions, ensuring the long-term stable operation of core pipeline systems.
